The 3rd IVIRMA Media Awards on Assisted Reproduction and Maternal-Foetal Health were created to recognize media excellence in the dissemination of treatments for infertility and health during pregnancy, as well as scientific advances in these areas of medicine.
What is it?
IVI was founded in 1990, as the first medical institution in Spain fully dedicated to Assisted Reproduction. Since then it has helped more than 160,000 children to be born, thanks to the application of the latest technologies in Assisted Reproduction. In early 2017, IVI merged with RMANJ, creating IVIRMA and becoming the largest Assisted Reproduction Group in the world. It currently has more than 65 clinics in 11 countries and is a leader in reproductive medicine.
What is Infertility?
Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), which has estimated that it affects more than 15% of women and couples worldwide. Approximately 33% of cases are due to a male-related factor, 21% to a female-related factor, 40% are of mixed origin and the remainder 6% are due to unexplained causes.
Our award
Within the framework of the 8th IVIRMA International Congress, to be held from 4th to 6th April 2019 in Palma de Mallorca, we announce the 3rd IVIRMA Media Awards on Assisted Reproduction and Maternal-Foetal Health, through which we wish to recognize journalistic excellence in the dissemination of information in the field of Medicine and Health, on the treatment of infertility and the Mother and Foetus.
The award
For the categories of Assisted Reproduction and Maternal-Foetal Health, among all participants from print, online (excluding blogs) and audiovisual (television and radio) media worldwide, a cash prize of 3,000 Euros will be awarded for each category , for increasing interest in Assisted Reproduction, Maternal-Foetal Health and the research work of journalists.
Once all applications have been analysed and marked, the winners will be notified by telephone or email, in March 2019.
The awards ceremony will be held during the 8th IVIRMA International Congress, which will take place from 4th to 6th April 2019 in the city of Majorca.
The award has two categories, Assisted Reproduction and Maternal-Foetal Health, on which applicants can submit articles published in print, online (excluding blogs) and audiovisual (television and radio) media.
Once all applications have been analysed and rated, and the Jury has reached a decision, the winners will be notified by telephone or email. The two best applicants chosen by the jury from all participants will be awarded a prize of 3,000 Euros for each category, as well as an award inspired by the Venus of Willendorf, a statuette by Sandra Figuerola representing fertility.
Sandra Figuerola is a Valencian artist who is active in different areas such as graphic design, publishing, culture, corporate identity, industrial design or textiles, as well as working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and El Almudín Center.
Jury
The jury will be comprised of representative members of relevant institutions from the health, academic and journalism worlds, who will rate the articles that best disseminate information on infertility and Maternal-Foetal health worldwide.
It is estimated that in Spain, between 15 and 17% of couples of reproductive age have some kind of problem conceiving. In the rest of the world Infertility affects approximately 15% of couples. Approximately 33% of cases are due to a male-related factor, 21% to a female-related factor, 40% are of mixed origin and the remainder 6% are due to unexplained causes.

Terms and conditions of the award
The 3rd IVIRMA Media Awards will be given to those articles that reflect information on Assisted Reproduction and Maternal-Foetal Health from a professional, serious, true and original perspective.
All professional journalists, belonging to international, national and local media, can participate, as well as freelance and temporary journalists who work for all types of media and medium: online -excluding blogs-, written press and audiovisual media (television and radio). Each article submitted must be accompanied by an accreditation signed by the person responsible for the journalist in the media outlet, as well as a photocopy of their national ID document.
The articles must focus on Assisted Reproduction and/or Maternal and Foetal Health, they must also be original, have been published in written or digital press or broadcast on radio or television between 1st January and 31st December 2018, and have a minimum length of 300 words.
Special focus will be placed on informative content related to infertility, its diagnosis, treatments, scientific advances, and health and care of the pregnant woman and the foetus. The papers will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Topicality of the subject
Documentation
Quality of the information
Interest for the reader
Number of hits achieved
Style
Clarity and accuracy of the information contained in the article
The deadline for the reception of papers will be 15th February 2019.
How to participate
The deadline to present applications will be 15th February 2019 at 14.00 p.m.
The articles must be presented by the actual applicants always specifying the authorship of the work.
Only one article per journalist may be submitted.
To participate, each applicant must submit their article, with their personal data and the media outlet they belong to, in line with the rules stated in the terms and conditions, to the email address secretariapremioivi@ivi.es, with the subject “Application 3rd IVIRMA Media Awards 2019” and specifying the category to which they are applying and their personal name.
It is essential for the author of the document to present, with the copy of the document, a certificate proving they belong to a media outlet, signed by their manager or the director of the outlet.

Accreditation of applicants
Each application must be accompanied by an accreditation signed by the person responsible for the journalist in the media outlet, as well as a document with the journalist’s personal data and a copy of their National ID document, at the time it is sent.
