Beyond Science: Stories That Inspire

To mark our 35th anniversary, we reached out to families who came to IVI years ago in search of an opportunity to become parents. Today, it’s their sons and daughters who share their favorite childhood memories, the goals they have achieved, and the dreams that inspire them.

We spoke with Gadea, an 18-year-old. After successfully completing the International Baccalaureate, she’s still unsure about her professional future—but knows she would love to travel and perhaps work abroad. “I can see myself living in another country,” she says, admitting that this idea makes her mother a little nervous. “She’s scared I’ll go away and start my life far from home.”

When Gadea imagines her life in 10 years, she’s clear about her goal: “I want to be doing something I love, something that makes me happy.” She also says she’s proud of her values: “I try to stay true to what I believe in and take care of the people around me.”

Looking 30 years ahead, she hopes to have a family of her own— ideally, with three children and a happy marriage. When asked about her happiest childhood memory, she doesn’t hesitate: summers in Cantabria with her grandmother. This is a family tradition that continues year after year and holds a special place in her heart.

Talking about her mother, she quickly highlights what she admires most: “For me, her greatest achievement is how far she’s come—continuing to support her family without ever losing herself. And that she’s never stopped having dreams and goals. That’s what makes her such a good person.”

When we ask what she thinks her parents’ greatest success has been, she pauses for a moment, thinking carefully but unsure what to say. Then, we show her a video of her mother, who shares with emotion what she considers her biggest achievement: “I want you to know that my greatest success is you.” Hearing her mother say those words moves Gadea deeply. In that moment, she understands just how meaningful her arrival was for her family.

A Story Born at IVI: Childhood, Memories, and the Future

His name is Ion, and he was born thanks to his mother Carmen, a patient at IVI Madrid. When asked about one of his greatest achievements, he doesn’t hesitate: “I remember learning my multiplication tables in just one week because I had changed schools and all my classmates already knew them.” It was a challenge he recalls proudly.

He also cherishes his family traditions—like spending summers in Santa Pola, going to the beach, and strolling along the harbor. He fondly remembers Christmas, when the whole family would gather, especially to celebrate the arrival of the Three Wise Men. But when we ask him about his mother’s greatest success, his answer surprises us: “When my mom was able to conceive and give birth to me, thanks to IVI.” His words moved our entire team and reminded us why our greatest success will always be helping you become a mom.
